I'm seeking other parents of children ages 3-4 years and located on the UWS to help develop an At-Home Parent-Run Preschool Playgroup/Cooperative. What is this, you may ask? Basically several parents with kids of a similar age collaborate and share responsibility for teaching preschool concepts to a group of 3-6 kids in their own homes. Ideally, kids will be in this parent-run 'school' 3-5 half-days per week and each parent will be responsible for leading the session one day every week or other week. Children will rotate between homes and parents will take turns leading the school. You don't have to be a certified teacher. You can plan the lessons around your strong points and create either structured or un-structured lesson plans when it's your turn to run the class. The finer details will be discussed and decided upon by the group of parents involved. Preferably, the 'school' will start in Fall 2006, but weekly playgroups will begin in Spring/Summer 2006 so that all participants will be used to and comfortable with each other before the session begins.
