Thirteen unique and fashionable wrap, Asian-style, buckle, sling and pouch styles of fabric baby carriers will be available to test drive with assistance and advice from a group of sales-free, expert, local parent- users. Seven carriers and other baby items worth over $800 will be given away in a free raffle. Whole guidebooks have been inspired by parents’ frenzy to acquire the latest baby gear and New York City parents are arguably some of the most leading edge and discriminating. The NYC Babywearing Bonanza will facilitate their discovery of indie, stylish carriers, demystify babywearing and promote its benefits. Babywearing Bonanza attendees will learn: Ø What carrier styles and fabrics are most comfortable for them Ø How to wear the various styles of carriers Ø Where these types of carriers can be purchased Ø Why babywearing is beneficial and Ø How to connect with local babywearing support for assistance and advice face-to-face and online. Babywearing has quietly exploded on the urban parenting scene as the Baby Bjorn has grown in popularity and accessibility and competitors have entered the market offering lower priced substitutes. Lesser known are the few online and offline retailers who have, with the occasional celebrity endorsement, fanned a growing flame of interest in ‘alternative’, fabric baby carriers such as the sling. These retailers offer thoroughly modern, diverse products with durable and comfortable styling; exquisite fabrics, color combinations and patterns and new, convenient features. Thus, a wide variety of relatively unknown baby carriers have found a popular market with a growing, but minority group of parents who have taken the time and effort to search them out.
